Handwritten Note to Andy Faulk - Head of Geology

month 6 - year 9

Andy,

In case I don't see you before you get back in from the field I wanted to let you know that in light of the increased seismic activity Landing has been experiencing, I have secured passage to the islands for tomorrow. I will be staying with the holders that are still in residence for five days before the ship is back from her fishing expedition and will be able to return me to Landing. Luckily no thread is expected while I am on-site - small mercies.

Hopefully with a few more accelerometers and seismometers in the area, in additions to the ones already there, we will be able to better map where the quakes are originating from.

Wish me luck,

Aisha

p.s. When I get back we should try and do dinner with the kids. If you happen to see them before I am back, maybe ask if they have a free evening?

06.09

Aisha Kouri,

Sounds good. Got inspired to look through the old observation listings. Found a few defunct outposts, pre-Thread. Maybe can grab some data and/or equipment from there. Too tired to do reqs from Silvia but I'll do it later.

I've got Branson on some core samples now too. See if this sort of activity is common in the geological record.

The past is richter than the present!

(Ha-ha.)

Cheers,
Andy.

P.S. 7 on Tuesday, kids will be there.

Fieldwork Report - Attn: Andy Faulk - From: Aisha Kouri - 07/09

Andy,

Attached is the report from my most recent fieldwork report. I would like to discuss it with you when you have a chance. Do you perhaps have some availability tomorrow or the next day?

There is definitely some on-going seismic activity occurring in the islands. Not necessarily enough that anyone still trying to live out there would feel it, but the instrumentation is picking up on it. Not necessarily surprising given that the islands are on top of a fault line, but it is possibly affecting the plate that Landing is on.

I have scheduled a sled to take me out to the islands in two weeks time. In the mean time, I will run some additional analytics on the data we have thus far.

07.09

Aisha Kouri,

Yes. I'll be languishing in my office both those days. Come in as soon as you get back. Making notes on these already. Lots to say.

Gave the reports to Naoko to look at too. Never seen her go so white. But you know her – she's a little superstitious. Doesn't she keep a picture of Vesuvius stuck to her computer? Always thought that was weird.

See you soon.

-A.F.
