|The latest dragon clutch has hatched successfully. Yet for the time being, the focus seems to have slid off the dragons. There's been a spike in volcanic activity around Landing, and for once, it's not Thread the colonists are worried about.

Full Name: Ilya Kuznetsov
Nicknames: Iely, Ilyusha, Kuzya
Age: 23 (14 at Landing, born month 3)
Occupation: Candidate, Civilian
Origin: Saskatchewan, Canada, Earth
Played By: George Young
Appearance: A tall man with a lean build, Iely tends to loom over others. Candidate training and life as a dragonrider has helped fill him out a bit more; he's not as thin and scraggy as he used to appear. He's in good shape, with well-muscled arms and strong shoulders. Though he has a handsome face, there is quietness and shyness to his eyes that seems to want to divert any attention that focuses on him.
He has the same, distinctive hawk-like nose as his father, only smaller and less impressive. His hair is black, short, and fluffy, and he has dark brown eyes. His skin is a golden tan. Despite having a taste for fashion and some sewing skills of his own, he is too shy to wear anything remotely eye-catching (let alone something that he made himself). Most of his clothing is practical and dull, chosen mainly to help him blend in as much as possible.
Summary: insecure, cowardly, eccentric, intelligent, kind-hearted
Quiet, timid, and obedient, Ilya rarely expresses his own opinions and generally does as he’s told. The only son of a strict and domineering father, he spent much of his life being treated essentially as a vessel for his father to achieve what he wanted. And Iely tried to comply—but he’s definitely not very good at it. He is very different from his father, and deep down he knows he can never achieve what his father wants—which is to become a more successful copy of him.
For much of his life, he's been terrified of failing to meet his father's and everyone else's expectations. All he wants is to be liked and appreciated as a person. He struggles with anxiety at least partly because of this. He’s a bit of a coward, and has a hard time standing up for other people or himself—even if he should. At times he can be judgmental and condescending—partly because he assumes others will be the same way to him.
Away from his father’s company, however, Iely is easier to talk to. He can be friendly, and he is generally polite. He tries to keep a cheery face. Despite his father’s best efforts, Iely is fundamentally a good person—he can be very kind and empathetic, especially if he sees that someone is in the same position as himself. He is not stuck in his views, and is usually gentle and mild; it’s very rare that he ever gets angry. He has a bright mind and is perceptive—if absent-minded at times.

Harth; the Clydesdale Bronze
Hex Code: #d05c28 | Harth's speech.
Age: 12 months [h. 09.08]
Strong and stocky, Harth is a prime example of his colour. Bulky and muscular, yet with a certain slimness and elegance to his strong frame, he will undoubtedly be a handsome bronze. And a large one, too: he is equal in height to his brother Tulcath, though he is smaller in girth and build. His wings are long and broad, more than able to bear his own weight. He is well-balanced for a bronze--his conformation suited to a mixture of endurance and agility. He will never be as swift as his brother Sarath, nor as enduring as Tulcath--but he will be able to shift into different roles as needed. As a hatchling, his legs will almost seem too long for him, and he will be clumsy at first--but he will grow into an impressive sight.
His hide is a rich orange-bronze, fading into dark, scorched-looking points on his nose, neck, tail, and legs. His belly is a brighter, lighter golden tone than the rest of him. His vast wings are a dark, reddish brown that seem to take on a warm, dull glow in the sunlight; when the light shines through them, it resembles the glow of embers. His legs are dipped in large, pale sock-like markings, and he has a white blaze on his face.
Warm is the first word that comes to mind when describing Harth. Well-practiced at laughing at himself and at life, he has a humourous way of comforting both Ilya and others. His sense of humour is gentle, if somewhat dry: he often jokes and tries to point out the amusing side of a situation. Indeed: Harth does his best to reassure and to care. He is infinitely gentle: never liking to rush, Harth takes things slowly and patiently. He has a strong desire to teach and help, and will always go to those who seem to need it most. He will be first and foremost a mentor and a care-taker, and a good listener. He is never outwardly dismissive, always willing to give others a chance to voice their thoughts.
But his sense of humour and his patience does not mean he can't leap to action when he needs to. He takes his duty of destroying Thread and protecting Pern very seriously. Those he comes to trust will see another, more sorrowful side to him: Harth always tries to carry the world's burdens, even if there is no way the dragon could shoulder everyone's responsibilities. He does not always remember when to let go, and it will be up to Ilya to remember the lessons Harth has tried to show him--to encourage the dragon to take some of his own advice and simply laugh. He is a bit of a workaholic, and may forget to relax without Ilya's help. He leans more towards caution and reservation--and as much as he tries to appear stoic, Ilya will know the dragon's underlying anxieties, and how those anxieties can paralyze him. Indeed, as caring as he is--there are very few that Harth genuinely trusts. Rarely does the bronze show his true thoughts or feelings to those he does not know well. He is terrified of appearing weak, of failing in his duties--terrified that if he shows anything other than patience and calm, he will disappoint everyone.
Harth will tend towards cynicism: as patient as he is, he is quick to pass judgement on others. And while he is often a good judge of character, Ilya will have to learn that there are times when he must make decisions himself, without Harth's help. He is intelligent and perceptive for a dragon, but his emotions cloud his vision more than he realizes. As bright as his mind is, Harth fundamentally thinks with his heart, not his head. He takes slights and insults more personally than he should. He holds grudges, and it will be up to Ilya to persuade him into giving others a second chance.
The feeling of sitting close to a crackling fireplace. The smoky smell of burning wood, the warm glow on your cheeks: Harth's voice suffuses the mind with warmth and comfort. He is soft-spoken, always a gentle, even presence--never intruding or disrupting. His voice is only loud when he laughs, and then it is a deep, rumbling sound.
